ZEE5 Global has officially announced the premiere of its upcoming slice-of-life original series, ‘Bakaiti’, produced by Dice Media. It premieres on 1st August 2025.
The series marks the eagerly awaited return of veteran actors Sheeba Chaddha and Rajesh Tailang as on-screen parents, offering audiences a compelling depiction of familial life brimming with affection, chaos, and authenticity.
The recently released trailer provides a glimpse of the pair’s effortless on-screen chemistry, promising viewers a heartwarming and engaging watch. Set within the lively lanes of old Ghaziabad, ‘Bakaiti’ follows the endearing dysfunction of the Kataria family, where daily quarrels and seemingly mundane exchanges serve as subtle expressions of love.
At the heart of the story is 21-year-old Naina (Tanya Sharma), ambitious and grounded, whose world is upended by the arrival of her mischievous younger brother Bharat (Aditya Shukla). Their playful clashes unfold under the quiet scrutiny of their parents, Sanjay (Rajesh Tailang) and Sushma (Sheeba Chaddha), who juggle grief, financial strain, and the unspoken burden of holding the household together.
The narrative explores generational divides, including the simmering tensions between Sanjay, an emotionally-driven elder sibling, and his practical brother Ajay. Through financial pressures, sibling disagreements, and varying outlooks, ‘Bakaiti’ portrays the understated resilience and enduring love that quietly underpins many Indian households.
Kaveri Das, Business Head at ZEE5 Hindi, said, “At ZEE5 Global, we’ve always championed stories drawn from everyday life. ‘Bakaiti’ beautifully reflects the essence of the Indian middle-class home, with all its warmth, complexity, and humour. It’s a pleasure to partner with Pocket Aces on a show that is sure to strike a chord with viewers worldwide.”
Aditi Shrivastava, Producer at Dice Media, added, “Like our signature Dice Media offerings, ‘Bakaiti’ captures the bittersweet reality of modern family dynamics—especially between Gen Z and their parents. Featuring seasoned performers like Sheeba ji and Rajesh ji alongside emerging talent Tanya Sharma and Aditya Shukla, the show blends heart and hilarity in equal measure.”
Director Ameet Guptha shared, “This story was inspired by conversations we’ve all had in passing—across dining tables and rooftops. We sought to go deeper, not bigger, capturing moments that resonate in silence and simplicity. Sheeba ji and Rajesh ji bring a quiet magic that lifts the entire narrative.”
Sheeba Chaddha reflected on her role, “Portraying Sushma felt both familiar and refreshing. The Kataria family mirrors so many households where laughter and love coexist with everyday strain. It’s rare to see such stories told with honesty.”
Rajesh Tailang added, “Sanjay felt like stepping into the shoes of so many fathers I’ve known—gentle, overwhelmed, and full of heart. ‘Bakaiti’ honours the beauty in the mundane, and I’m grateful to be part of this journey.”
