In a significant shift, Karan Johar has decided that Dharma Productions will handle the distribution of its films directly, stepping away from relying on external distributors.
A source close to the development revealed to Bollywood Hungama, “Dharma Productions has traditionally focused solely on production, while studios or major distributors managed the theatrical release. Now, Karan Johar aims to transform Dharma into a full-fledged studio overseeing both production and distribution.”
To spearhead this ambitious move, Bhumika Tewari, formerly the head of distribution at ZEE Studios, has been appointed to lead Dharma’s new distribution division.
This strategic shift follows Johar’s recent announcement of a landmark partnership with Adar Poonawalla, CEO of the Serum Institute of India. Poonawalla acquired a 50% stake in Dharma Productions and its digital arm, Dharmatic Entertainment, for a staggering ₹1,000 crore.
