London’s popular Asian radio station, Lyca Radio, has been awarded Radio Station of the Year at the 2024 Asian Media Awards.
This achievement follows a milestone year, as Lyca Radio expanded its reach by launching its brand in the North West of England and Leicestershire. In December 2023, it acquired frequencies from Asian Sound Radio and rebranded the station as Lyca Radio – Greater Manchester. Earlier this month, the network also introduced a DAB variant in Leicestershire. In Greater London, Lyca Radio Network operates Lyca Gold, known as the UK’s first retro Asian music station.
The award win saw Lyca Radio triumph over other notable UK Asian broadcasters and marks its second victory, having also won in 2022. The station earned nominations in three additional categories, including Best Radio Show and Radio Presenter of the Year.
Raj Baddhan, CEO of Lyca Radio Network, celebrated the achievement, saying, “This award is a testament to my team’s incredible work over the past year and beyond. We have also been celebrating our recent RAJAR figures, which put the Lyca Group stations (Lyca Radio and Lyca Gold) at No.1 as the leading commercial Asian radio network in London. This award concludes an incredible week, and we will always be indebted to our listeners, well-wishers, and our commercial partners. Thank you, everyone.”
The Asian Media Awards, now in their 11th year, continue to honour the achievements of Asians in the media and arts sectors.
